Cozumel is a resort town where the workers are paid small salaries and depend on tips for the majority of their income.  Ideally, you should tip as you at home, based on the quality of serivce and your budget.  Generally, we recommend ten (10%) to twenty (20%) percent of the cost of the service.  The following are a few individuals to keep in mind who work hard and rely on tips:

• HOUSEKEEPING STAFF/MAIDS:  Their wages are determined by the Hotel Association and are generally low.  Please tip them a few dollars a day and if you were messy, leave more.  You will find them extremely hard working to make your stay enjoyable.
• DOORMEN:  Tips should be based on how helpful they have been during your stay at Agua Azul.
• TAXI DRIVERS:  Tip them at your discretion.  Many taxi drivers will "pad" the fare and if they do so, you may not want to tip them.
• WAITERS:  Generally tipped 10-20% depending on the quality of their service.
• DIVE MASTERS/BOAT CREW/TOUR GUIDES:  Tips are 10% and up on the cost of service and depends on how helpful they were.
• PERFORMERS:  About $2.00 - $3.00 per song or performance.
