Is the water in the unit safe? The tap water in our building goes through an extensive filtering process and is also exposed to UV light. Since we prefer to err on the safe side, we have installed a reverse osmosis system in the kitchen. This system is in place for the icemaker and side spigot on the kitchen sink. What about water outside the premises? Water is NOT safe outside the building, and even the locals do not drink it. Everyone drinks bottled water. When you dine at restaurants and ask for "agua" or water, you will receive bottled water. Restaurants should also use bottled water to make ice, however, there are no guarantees. If you decide on a fountain drink, it is best to ask for one without ice or order a beer and drink it out of the bottle. We also recommend you carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you to use after washing your hands and before eating. |
